Your solution for reliable proficiency testing
in temperature according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043

A proficiency test is a process used to assess a laboratory’s capability regarding a specific parameter or calibration item. The measurement results from multiple labs are compared to check accuracy, demonstrate competence, or identify potential weaknesses.
Proficiency tests are especially vital for accredited laboratories as part of their quality management system, and they help increase customer confidence in the reliability of your results.

Because quality doesn’t happen by chance:
Our DAkkS Accreditation Certificate
Our Services
Proof of Competence
Support for New Accreditations
Reduce Measurement Uncertainty
We offer accredited proficiency tests in the field of temperature. Laboratories are generally required to prove their competence for each measurement parameter or calibration item at regular intervals (approximately every 5 years).
For a new accreditation, this applies to the entire accreditation scope. For existing accreditations, our proficiency tests can help
reduce your measurement uncertainty.
Proficiency Testing Plan
We create an individual plan for every order, covering all required measurements in a structured manner. This helps ensure the testing process is clearly organized and carried out efficiently.

Your Benefits with Klasmeier
Lower Measurement Uncertainties
We use temperature fixed points that enable extremely precise measurements.
This allows you to minimize your measurement uncertainties.
Faster Processing Through Bilateral Comparisons
Instead of round-robin tests, we offer bilateral comparisons. This is more cost-effective, faster, and can be customized to your requirements (e.g., freely selectable calibration points).
Custom Calibration Items Available
We can provide our own calibration items. With our in-house thermometer manufacturing, we can offer solutions tailored to your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a proficiency test?
A proficiency test (also known as a round-robin test or comparison measurement) is a process for evaluating the competence of laboratories, testing facilities, or calibration labs. In this process, the results of multiple participants are compared based on predetermined criteria.
The main goals of proficiency testing are:
• Ensuring the quality and accuracy of measurement results,
• Maintaining comparability among different laboratories,
• And identifying any weaknesses in the measurement process.
Proficiency tests are an essential part of quality management systems and are often required for accreditations, for instance according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
How does a proficiency test at Klasmeier work?
We carry out our proficiency tests in seven clearly defined steps to meet the requirements of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043:
1. Planning and Preparation:
The calibration lab and our pilot lab jointly determine the scope of the proficiency test, including requirements and test parameters.
2. Providing the Test Item:
The participating calibration lab receives an unknown test item for calibration. There are two options:
• Neutral test item: A test item is shipped directly from the manufacturer to Klasmeier. This ensures that no calibration or manufacturing documents are sent to the participating lab.
• Test item from Klasmeier: Alternatively, we can provide a test item that can be rented or purchased. If you choose to rent it, 10% of the item’s purchase price is charged. Purchasing the item has the advantage that you can continue using it as a reference in your lab, since part of the proficiency test includes a traceable calibration according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
3. Calibration in the Pilot Lab:
Our pilot lab (Klasmeier Calibration Lab) calibrates the test item first. This bilateral calibration usually takes about 5 working days. Round-robin tests can be organized upon request.
4. Transport of the Test Item:
The test item is then shipped to the participating lab in a secure manner.
5. Calibration at the Participating Lab:
The participating lab performs the calibration according to the agreed parameters. Ideally, these should match the pilot lab’s parameters to ensure comparable results.
6. Evaluation of Results:
The participating lab sends its calibration results to the pilot lab, which then evaluates these results and calculates the EN value to determine whether the proficiency test was successful. If uncertainties are very low or special requirements exist, the pilot lab may perform a repeat calibration.
7. Final Report:
Upon completion of the evaluation, the participating lab receives a comprehensive report that fulfills the DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043 requirements. This report can be used as evidence during audits and accreditations (e.g. DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025).
How much does a proficiency test at Klasmeier cost?
The proficiency test fee at Klasmeier is €1,300. This includes the evaluation according to the DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043 requirements, as well as the organization and execution of the proficiency test.
Additional costs:
The following costs are not included in the proficiency test fee:
1. Calibration in the Pilot Lab:
The calibration performed by our pilot lab is billed separately. You can find our calibration prices here.
2. Providing a Neutral Test Item:
An unknown test item is required for the proficiency test. There are two options:
• Handled by the participating lab or by Klasmeier:
A suitable test item is sourced directly from a manufacturer, with the requirement that no calibration or production documents are sent to the calibration lab.
• Provided by Klasmeier:
We can provide a suitable test item that can be rented or purchased:
• Rental: 10% of the test item’s purchase price.
• Purchase: The test item can subsequently be used as a reference standard in your own lab, since an accredited calibration according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 is part of the test.
More information:
You can find more details about costs for test items here.
How long does a proficiency test take?
The duration of a proficiency test depends on factors such as the scope of the test, the participating lab’s calibration schedule, and shipping times.
Typical timelines:
1. Processing time in the pilot lab:
• Initial calibration: Approx. 5 working days.
• Evaluation of results: Another ~5 working days.
In total, our pilot lab typically needs about two work weeks.
2. Total duration:
• With smooth coordination, a proficiency test can be completed in around 4 weeks.
• On average, a proficiency test takes about 8 weeks to ensure all steps are thoroughly and accurately performed.
The exact timeline is coordinated individually with the participating lab to run the test as efficiently as possible.
