Klasmeier – Precision in temperature

Graduate Engineers Thomas and Peter Klasmeier

Klasmeier is a medium-sized family business based in Fulda.
It has been family-owned for more than 35 years and is managed in the second generation by Thomas Klasmeier, a graduate engineer.

The company specializes in temperature measurement and temperature calibration, operates the Klasmeier calibration service, organizes training courses and produces eXacal precision thermometers.

Over 35 years – Precision in temperature

In November 1986, Klasmeier was founded as a sales company for temperature calibration equipment under the brand name ISOTECH. Since then, the spectrum of Klasmeier’s activities has changed continuously. The project planning and start-up of calibration facilities, but also the high-precision measurement of the physical parameter temperature were added.

Klasmeier has operated its own accredited temperature calibration laboratory since 1997. Typically, in temperature calibration laboratories, temperature measuring systems to be calibrated in thermostats are compared with calibrated reference sensors. The difference found between the thermometers is the calibration result. Klasmeier takes its own way by using defining fixed points of the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90) to be able to perform high-precision calibrations. Thus, in the temperature range from -189 °C (triple point of high-purity argon) to 962 °C ( freezing point of high-purity silver), these defining fixed points can be measured with an accuracy of up to 1/1000 °C (1 mK).

The fixed points and the measuring equipment are traceable to the German national standards of the PTB (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt) and to the English calibration service UKAS and the DAkkS. All measurements and calibrations are therefore traceable to national and international standards. In addition, traceable calibrations can be made in the temperature range from -200 °C to 1300 °C.

At the beginning of 2007, Klasmeier moved into new buildings in Flemingstraße in Fulda. This tripled the spatial capacity of the calibration laboratory.

Company history

1986
Company foundation of a sales company for temperature calibration equipment of the brand name ISOTECH by Dipl.- Ing. Peter Klasmeier.

1987 – 1996
Continuous expansion of the business areas, such as project planning and commissioning of calibration equipment, high-precision measurement and measurement of the physical parameter temperature.

1996
Start-up of an accredited DKD calibration laboratory for the parameter temperature.

The fixed points and the measuring equipment are connected to the German national standards of the PTB (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt) and to the English calibration service UKAS. All measurements and calibrations are therefore traceable to national and international standards. Traceable calibrations can be carried out in the temperature range from -200 °C to 1300 °C.

2004
Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Thomas Klasmeier is nominated Managing Director with exclusive right of representation together with Dipl.-Ing. Peter Klasmeier.

Extension of the DKD accreditation for calibration at temperature fixed points: DKD calibrations from -38,8344 °C to 419,527 °C can be made.

2005
Extension of the DKD accreditation to include the fixed point aluminium: DKD calibrations from -38,8344 °C to 660,323 °C can be made.

2007
The company moves to a larger building in the Münsterfeld / Fulda industrial park. The calibration laboratory’s capacity in terms of space is thereby tripled.

The new building of the Klasmeier company

2009
Extension of DKD accreditation to include the silver fixed point: Klasmeier is the only laboratory in Germany that can perform DKD calibrations from -38,8344 °C to 971,78 °C.

2011
Registration of the brand name eXacal.

2011
Extension of DKD accreditation to include the argon triple point: DKD calibrations from -189,3442 °C to 971,78 °C can be done.

2012
The Klasmeier calibration service receives new DAkkS accreditation.
After a successful audit, Klasmeier Kalibrier- und Messtechnik GmbH was able to convert the existing DKD accreditation into a DAkkS accreditation.
The new accreditation number of the calibration laboratory is D-K-15224-01-00.

2015
Extension of the DAkkS accreditation for the calibration of AC/DC temperature measuring bridges with the smallest measurement uncertainties in the DAkkS.

2016
New sales partnership: Klasmeier takes over the representation of the market leader of hand-made platinum measuring resistors/temperature detectors of the company TDI- Thermal Development International.

2020
The new eXacal thermometer manufactory starts its work. At Klasmeier, precision thermometers are now manufactured by hand in Fulda/Germany. In addition to the construction of the actual thermometers, another focus is on the development of our own tools and production processes.

2024
The Klasmeier calibration laboratory receives a new DAkkS accreditation.
Following a successful audit, Klasmeier Kalibrier- und Messtechnik GmbH can now offer accredited qualification tests in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043. The accreditation number is D-EP-15224-01-00.
