Traditioneel worden bij de kalibratie van thermometers in het negatieve temperatuurbereik kalibratiebaden of temperatuurblokkalibratoren gebruikt. Deze bereiken echter snel hun grenzen bij het koelen en worden doorgaans slechts tot ongeveer&nbsp;<strong>-80 \u00b0C<\/strong>&nbsp;toegepast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kalibratiebaden worden gekoeld met compressoren. Om een stabiele regeling van de kalibratietemperatuur te waarborgen, werkt een elektrische verwarming &#8220;tegen&#8221; de compressor, die continu op maximale capaciteit koelt. Daarnaast veranderen de gebruikte kalibratiemedia, zoals siliconenolie of ethanol, hun viscositeit aanzienlijk en nemen ze vocht uit de omgevingslucht op. Beide factoren bemoeilijken de temperatuurregeling van kalibratiebaden. De laagste temperatuur die met een stabiele regeling in kalibratiebaden kan worden bereikt, ligt rond&nbsp;<strong>-80 \u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Temperatuurblokkalibratoren worden gekoeld met Peltier-elementen of Stirling-motoren. Deze technologie\u00ebn zijn beperkt in hun capaciteit en kunnen worden gebruikt tot ongeveer&nbsp;<strong>-50 \u00b0C<\/strong>&nbsp;met Peltier-elementen en tot&nbsp;<strong>-100 \u00b0C<\/strong>&nbsp;met Stirling-motoren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Om deze beperkingen te overwinnen, maken wij gebruik van vloeibare stikstof als&nbsp;<strong>koudebron<\/strong>.
