La mesure de temp\u00e9rature avec un thermocouple exploite l&rsquo;effet Seebeck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Thomas Johann Seebeck d\u00e9couvrit par hasard qu&rsquo;une tension \u00e9lectrique appara\u00eet entre les deux extr\u00e9mit\u00e9s d&rsquo;une barre m\u00e9tallique lorsqu&rsquo;il existe une diff\u00e9rence de temp\u00e9rature (gradient de temp\u00e9rature) dans la barre. Apr\u00e8s avoir reli\u00e9 les deux extr\u00e9mit\u00e9s, un courant \u00e9lectrique circula, dont il d\u00e9montra le champ magn\u00e9tique \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide d&rsquo;une aiguille de boussole. Thomas Johann Seebeck parvint en 1821 \u00e0 exploiter cet effet dans un premier thermocouple.  <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>L&rsquo;effet Seebeck g\u00e9n\u00e8re une tension \u00e9lectrique entre deux points d&rsquo;un conducteur \u00e9lectrique qui pr\u00e9sentent des temp\u00e9ratures diff\u00e9rentes.<\/strong> Pour mesurer la tension \u00e9lectrique d&rsquo;un thermocouple, le c\u00e2ble du thermocouple est raccord\u00e9 \u00e0 un appareil de mesure universel. Le mat\u00e9riau de raccordement des appareils de mesure est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement en cuivre. La connaissance de la temp\u00e9rature de la jonction de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence constitue un facteur d\u00e9terminant pour l&rsquo;exactitude de la mesure de temp\u00e9rature par thermocouple. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avec les thermocouples, on mesure toujours une comparaison entre le point de mesure \u00ab chaud \u00bb et le point de mesure \u00ab froid \u00bb. Si le point de mesure \u00ab froid \u00bb est maintenu en permanence \u00e0 une temp\u00e9rature connue et stable (par exemple 0 \u00b0C), cela influe directement sur la pr\u00e9cision de la mesure de temp\u00e9rature.
